Inventory management roguelites have been a relatively popular genre for the past few years, and I have played and been a fan of several such autobattler games like Backpack battles, Lootplot, Inventorix, Backpack hero, Bazaar…
This game follows the same paths – you buy, combine, and sell various weapons, items, and potions in your available inventory, and they activate various bonuses on themselves and surrounding items based on their characteristic descriptions. A novelty in this game compared to the ones mentioned is that expanding the inventory is possible at any time and that each newly discovered square costs 1 coin, which slightly eases the strategy.
Despite all the hype, the game somehow doesn't sit well with me. I can't quite determine what it is, but it feels like I no longer have the patience or interest to read the effects of each item, to assemble combinations only to ultimately lose because the opponent won the coin toss. Yes, the game relies quite a bit on RNG, much more than similar themed games. I can't say it's bad; the illustrations and animations are excellent, the SFX and music are also pleasing to the ear, but the whole concept somehow remains bland to me despite everything and doesn't entice me for more.
Maybe it's just me, but it seems to me that the 1TK team behind this game has overly polished the strategic side of the story, which probably targets hardcore gamers, which it seems I am no longer 😊
So if you love inventory management autobattlers, and all the ones I've mentioned are too easy and shallow for you – give Turnbound a chance.
