Veterans of Guitar Hero and DJ Hero have opened a new studio RedOctane Games. As they stated, it is home to the creators and developers who helped create these titles nearly two decades ago, as well as some members who still contribute to the rhythm game genre.
They are currently working on multiple titles, one of which is expected to be revealed later this year. They also describe themselves as part of the Embracer Group, specifically its Freemode subsidiary that supports indie studios.
At the helm of RedOctane Games is Simon Ebejer, who was responsible for a couple of Guitar Hero titles while working for Neversoft, and later worked at Blizzard and was the head of Vicarious Visions.
RedOctane was the publisher of Guitar Hero 1 and 2 before it became a subsidiary of Activision, which acquired it for 100 million dollars. The studio was founded by Kai Huang and Charles Huang, and the aforementioned company closed them down in 2010. The Huang brothers will be advisors at RedOctane Games.
"Rhythm games are not just about gameplay; they are also a way to feel a connection with music and each other. RedOctane Games is our gift to a genre that means a lot to us as we lead it in new and exciting directions," said Ebejer.
