Nintendo has revealed new details about the game Splatoon Raiders during today's Splatoon Raiders Direct, which releases on July 23 exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. It is an action shooter focused on a single-player experience, but with support for online and local co-op for up to four players.
In the game, you take on the role of a mechanic collaborating with the group Deep Cut, known from the Splatoon series. Shiver, Frye, and Big Man accompany the player on a journey through the mysterious Spirhalite Islands, an archipelago full of hidden treasures, Salmonids, crystals, dangerous undergrounds, and special zones where only certain equipment and tools can be used.
The main goal will be to explore the islands, collect loot, and fight against various types of Salmonids. Lesser Salmonids attack in large groups, Boss Salmonids present a more serious challenge, while Seasoned Salmonids are the most dangerous opponents, further strengthened and harder to defeat. By defeating stronger enemies, players can obtain valuable resources, including the Mega Power Egg, which serves as an important energy source for the Exploration Bot.
Splatoon Raiders features over 100 weapon variations, as well as three types of tanks: Speed Tank, Power Tank, and Tactical Tank. Each tank has its own playstyle and supports different gadgets. The Speed Tank emphasizes fast movement and evasion of attacks, the Power Tank is designed for aggressive breakthroughs through hordes of enemies, while the Tactical Tank offers a more strategic approach through turret systems, explosive traps, and laser attacks.
There is also a strong emphasis on upgrades. Players collect parts for gadgets during expeditions, upgrade equipment, strengthen tanks, and unlock additional capabilities, such as using three gadgets at once. Shiver assists in crafting new gadgets, Frye in upgrading weapons, while Big Man catalogs useful information and helps organize progress.
The game will offer three difficulty levels: Tourist, Raider, and Survivalist. The difficulty can be changed on the hideout ship, and the amount of loot remains the same regardless of the chosen challenge. Additionally, players will be able to unlock various outfits, including special costumes through compatible Splatoon amiibo figures and new Splatoon Raiders amiibo releases.
Although Splatoon Raiders is designed as a single-player adventure, players will be able to play online or locally with three other players. Solo players can request temporary online help from other players, while those who respond to the call will receive special rewards.
Nintendo also announced Deep Cut's Island Misadventures, a daily Splatoon comic available through the Nintendo Today! app, as an introduction to the game's story. A special Splatfest inspired by Splatoon Raiders will also arrive in Splatoon 3, taking place from July 11 at 02:00 CEST to July 13 at 02:00 CEST. Alongside the game, new colors for the Joy-Con 2 controllers, Blue and Light Yellow, inspired by the group Deep Cut, will also be released on the same day.
