When Grand Theft Auto V is mentioned today, most gamers think of a huge open world, billions of dollars earned and one of the most successful video games of all time. However, the path to that status was long and full of key milestones that defined not only the series, but also the entire gaming industry.
It all started back in 1997 with the original Grand Theft Auto, a game that offered a bird's eye view and relatively simple gameplay. Although technically modest, it already laid the foundations - freedom of movement, criminal activities and an open world that responds to the player. The sequel, Grand Theft Auto 2, further expanded the idea with a greater focus on factions and city interaction, but the real revolution was yet to follow.
In 2001, Grand Theft Auto III was released, a title that changed gaming forever. The transition to a 3D world and a whole new level of freedom made it one of the most influential titles of all time. Liberty City became a living, dynamic space, and for the first time players could immerse themselves in the criminal world in a way that was previously unimaginable.

After that success, Rockstar Games continues to string hits. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City brings 80s aesthetics and an unforgettable atmosphere inspired by the Miami Vice series, while Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas raises the bar with a huge map, RPG elements and a story that follows CJ through a world of crime, family and betrayal. Many still consider San Andreas to be the pinnacle of the series.

Entering the HD era, Grand Theft Auto IV brings a more serious tone and more realistic physics. The story of Niko Bellic provided a more emotional approach and showed that GTA can be more than chaotic fun. But the real explosion of popularity happens in 2013 with Grand Theft Auto V.
GTA V introduces three playable characters, the vast world of Los Santos and incredible production value. However, the key to longevity lies in GTA Online, which has continued to attract millions of players years after its release. Regular updates, new heists and the social aspect have turned GTA into a platform and not just a game.
Today, almost three decades after the first part, the GTA series remains synonymous with open-world games. His influence is visible in countless other titles, and expectations for the next sequel have never been higher. Regardless of where the series will go next, one thing is for sure, the GTA series has become more than just a video game!
