What new things are coming to us from Japan?

Japan Report #4 brings a new series of Japanese gaming news, this time focusing on Arc System Works, Inti Creates, Phoenix Game Productions, and Hamster. Highlights include a major update for DAMON and BABY, confirmed platforms for Demons’ Night Fever, the Nintendo Switch 2 release of the Azure Striker Gunvolt Trilogy Enhanced collection, the announcement of the psychological thriller Wasabi, and the arrival of the original Tekken in the Arcade Archives 2 series.

Arc System Works has released version 2.0 for the action-adventure DAMON and BABY, which is already available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The update introduces a new challenging mode called Lord Bloodedge’s Trials, which features a series of tougher combat and platform-oriented challenges, as well as the ability to rematch previously defeated bosses. Additionally, a new costume for Demon King Damon has been added, along with several practical improvements, including safer bases, an inventory recipe overview, faster reloads after Game Over, and additional options for controls and mapping.

Demons’ Night Fever has been confirmed for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC, with a release planned for 2026.

Arc System Works describes the game as a speedrun-training simulation RPG, developed by Drecom and SuperNiche. It is an unusual strategic RPG where the strength of the army is built through the sacrifice of its own units, known as the Peon Exploitation System. The story follows the demon Giga Super Death, who, after attempting to confront God, is transformed into a baby, and Killshira Katanaku, a young man who enters a bizarre alliance with him.

Inti Creates has announced that Azure Striker Gunvolt Trilogy Enhanced – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will be released on October 22, 2026. The collection includes Azure Striker Gunvolt, Azure Striker Gunvolt 2, and Azure Striker Gunvolt 3, along with previously released additional content. The Nintendo Switch 2 edition will feature support for higher resolution and a greater frame rate, as well as a new story mode called Azure Striker Gunvolt GX. In this mode, players will control Gunvolt and Copen as a tag-team duo, with new abilities, weapons, English and Japanese voice acting, and an Inspiration system that rewards timely character switching.

Phoenix Game Productions, a studio known for the game Tokyo Underground Killer, has announced Wasabi for PC.

This is a Japanese psychological thriller set in Azumino City in Nagano Prefecture during the 1990s. The game follows Ryuhei Kuroshima as he investigates a series of bizarre ritual murders, interrogates suspects, and tries to uncover the truth amid the increasingly uncomfortable atmosphere of a small town. Wasabi will feature eight suspects, six episodes, motion-capture interrogation scenes, multiple endings, and over ten hours of gameplay, with a release date yet to be announced.

Hamster released the original Tekken through Arcade Archives 2 on June 25, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The first Tekken was originally released in arcades in 1994 and later became one of the most important 3D fighting franchises. The Arcade Archives 2 edition includes Original Mode, Hi Score Mode, Caravan Mode, and a new Time Attack Mode, along with features such as difficulty and display adjustments, button remapping, save positions, move rewinds, and online leaderboards. The new version also supports VRR, making the arcade feel even closer to the original.
