Wargaming, responsible for the military naval multiplayer simulation World of Warships, in its latest update pays tribute to the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. New operations mark the occasion with exclusive rewards and ships to be won, including the American premium cruiser tier VIII San Diego. Additionally, players in the Shipyard can undertake the construction of the American premium destroyer tier X USS Laffey, and the content rarity system is expanded in the Armory, rounding out the new updates for World of Warships.

"In the Name of Tomorrow" marks the end of World War II with new operations

It has been 80 years since the end of World War II, and to commemorate this significant milestone, World of Warships presents three new operations that reflect the historical evolution of warfare. They will be available one week each for the first three weeks in the "In the Name of Tomorrow" event and will give players a limited time to complete the operations Arctic Convoy, Tokyo Express, and Pacific Offensive. Each is designed for up to seven players and offers diverse objectives, including convoy escort, stealthy ambushes, and the destruction of enemy fortified installations. To assist those who have set sail on the seven seas, the French cruiser tier VI La Galissonnière and the American cruiser tier VIII Cleveland will be available as rental ships.

After the initial three weeks, the new operations will return for the final week, giving players the chance to complete them again, with looser restrictions on ship tiers and nations. Completing the Operation objectives will reward participants with necessary stars for progression through a special narrative campaign and unlocking elements of the new collection "'39–'45 Chronicles" and a multitude of rewards. Among them is a special camouflage for the American battleship tier IX Iowa, a new destruction effect Underwater Explosion, and American captain Robert Adams. Throughout the update, players will be able to follow the journey of the extraordinary ship during World War II—the ship that is the ultimate reward for those who complete the event, the premium American cruiser tier VIII San Diego.

The Shipyard welcomes "The Ship That Will Not Be Destroyed"

The latest update introduces the premium American destroyer tier X USS Laffey to the Shipyard, ready for construction in 20 building phases. Known for its extensive service during World War II, Laffey was involved in true historical moments such as the Normandy landings and the Battle of Okinawa, where it earned the nickname "The Ship That Will Not Die" after surviving six kamikaze hits and four direct bomb strikes.

For World of Warships players, Laffey comes with 127 mm guns that may not hit hard, but synergize well with a strong setup that allows for great stealth. Its equipment includes improved anti-air defensive fire and enhanced consumables Specialized Repair Teams. If that's not enough, Laffey also has a variant of burst fire mechanics, short-range torpedoes, and a smoke screen generator to offset some of its shortcomings.

The content rarity system expands to the Armory

The content rarity system expands to the Armory and brings rarity ratings in colors for ships, camouflage, and enemy destruction effects. The system allows players to easily assess the differences in items and rate how difficult or easy they are to obtain. The system has also been extended to the captain's log. Finally, the August update for World of Warships concludes with two new flags and new achievements for the 31st season of clan battles.
