Blue Backpack and the publishers ByteRockers’ Games and PARCO GAMES have announced that the long-awaited hand-drawn 2D metroidvania Constance is now available on Steam for the price of €19.99 with a 10% discount in the first days. Versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch/Switch 2 will arrive in 2026.
During development, Constance was compared to games like Hollow Knight and Celeste due to its metroidvania exploration, dynamic platforming, combat, and themes of mental health. The player can take the form of color to navigate the terrain, perform acrobatics, and execute special “brush” techniques — but excessive use of these abilities causes corruption, so balance is key.
As players progress, they unlock new techniques, solve puzzles, defeat challenging enemies, and uncover the protagonist's past. Each of the more than six biomes represents different aspects of her psyche, along with numerous secrets, alternative paths, boss fights, and side quests in a nonlinear world.
