The cult adventure series Broken Sword could be getting a film adaptation. Revolution Software has confirmed that talks are underway with Story Kitchen and screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos about turning the long-held desire for a Broken Sword movie into reality.
This is a series that began in 1996 with the game Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars, one of the most famous point-and-click adventures of the nineties. Players followed American tourist George Stobbart and French journalist Nico Collard through a story of conspiracies, templars, mysteries, and travels across Europe and the Middle East.
So far, no actors, director, or release date for the film have been confirmed, so the project is still in its early stages. However, the mere fact that a combination of the original studio, production company Story Kitchen, and a screenwriter with experience in major film projects has come together for the adaptation could delight fans of classic adventures.
Broken Sword has been returning to the spotlight in recent years thanks to renewed editions, including Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars: Reforged and the announced The Smoking Mirror: Reforged. If the film project comes to fruition, George and Nico could gain a new audience beyond the world of video games.
