The release of version 1.0 has been announced.

Grinding Gear Games has announced the largest update for Path of Exile 2 titled Return of the Ancients. This is version 0.5.0 which will be released on May 29 and will also be the last in the early access phase.

Return of the Ancients brings five new endgame stories, two ascendancy classes (Spiritwalker and Martial Artist), a new league (Runes of Aldur), 15 new boss battles, 400+ expansions for the skill tree, 30 unique pieces of equipment, and the ability to build your own build. According to the game's director Jonathan Rogers, the endgame needed to undergo a change for the team to feel ready for the full version release.

"I want this game to be finished. This is definitely something I've been looking forward to for a while. I would love to return to regular league development and not worry about other things."

Rogers officially concluded the presentation of the new content by announcing that Path of Exile 2 will receive version 1.0 which will be released after Exilecon taking place on November 7-8, 2026, which means the game could be released in the middle or end of that month or possibly in December. The early access phase for the game began on December 6, 2024, so that could again be a date the team decides on.
