Armatus is a new roguelite third-person shooter developed by Counterplay Games, a studio known for the game Godfall, while the publisher is Fictions. The game is set to release this winter for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, and will be available from day one via Game Pass.
The story is set in Paris after the end of the world, where the streets are flooded with demonic hordes, and reality has begun to unravel. The player takes on the role of the last supernatural warrior of an ancient order, armed with firearms, a scythe, and celestial powers. His goal is to fight through the devastated city and find the lost passage to the sky, known as the Sunless Gate.
Armatus is based on trial and error, learning patterns, and gradually strengthening the character. Each run brings battles against increasingly dangerous foes, combining weapons and powers, and passive upgrades that change the gameplay style. The arsenal includes machine guns, shotguns, holy flames, time slowing, and other abilities that allow the player to adapt to chaotic conflicts.
Although starting as a already powerful fighter, the character grows further during each attempt and unlocks new ways to destroy enemies. Death is not the end, but a part of progress, so Armatus targets players who enjoy fast action, dark fantasy worlds, and a roguelite structure where each new attempt opens the opportunity for a better outcome.
