We have a game coming that doesn't hide its intentions: a "fast, fun, and unapologetic" first-person shooter – SHROT. At first glance, it is a pure doom-style packed FPS (the so-called boomer shooter) where the goal is clear: kill, destroy, and survive. Behind the development team and publisher is the studio ANIQ. According to the description on the official page: “A fast, funny, and unapologetically stupid first-person boomer shooter where a Slavic trucker gets stuck in an alien apocalypse and handles it the only way he knows how: with beer, cigarettes, and unresolved anger issues.”
Although there is no specific release date yet – only “2026” is mentioned as the planned release date.
Story and Setting
The main character of the game is a truck driver – a Slav by blood, “American by paycheck” – who is in the United States for work and beer, but one day gets caught up in an alien invasion. Instead of a complex mythology or emotional plots, the game goes for riff-irony and recognizable tropes: beer, cigarettes, anger, a belly that “enters the room before the character” – as the description states: “He’s not a hero. He’s not special. Just another guy who woke up one day in a seriously f**** up situation and said: ‘Eh, could be worse.’”
So, instead of an epic narrative, we get a pure “working man versus invasion” setup, which can be refreshing in a sea of pretentious stories.
Gameplay and Mechanics
What does the game offer? Here are the main elements:
- More than 47 unique enemies (including bosses).
- Three main types of enemies: aliens, robots, and humans that aliens experimented on and now walk zombified
- Nine upgradable weapons, each “with its own personality.”
- Level editor – players will have the ability to create their own maps and arenas.
- Co-op arena mode for up to 4 players – endless waves of enemies, ideal for multiplayer explosion.
- A “health” system where you can be “healthy for too long” and end up drunk – in the spirit of the game's humor.
Style and Atmosphere
SHROT sends a clear message right in the description: “No ‘woke’ crap. No politics. No propaganda. No filter.” So, the atmosphere should not be sought in deep narrative or moral dilemmas, but in pure action, brutality, humorous exaggeration, and a nostalgic sense for old FPS games that didn’t think too much – just shot.
The graphic style, considering the screenshots and teaser, combines retro aesthetics with modern effective elements – blood, explosions, futuristic elements of robots and aliens – but all of this with a dose of humor and “over-the-top action.”
Who is the game for?
If you are fans of the boomer shooter genre (e.g. games like Doom (1993), Serious Sam or newer reinterpretations like Dusk), then SHROT could be a great entry point. Especially if you want an experience that doesn’t require too much thinking, but pure “dodge bullets, kill enemies, move on.”
Also, if you enjoy games with co-op mode and are willing to invite friends to embark on an adventure against endless waves – this could be a good title for a group.
On the other hand, if you are looking for a deep story, character development, or moral weight – SHROT is not that. Its focus is on action, unbearable humor, and pure fun.
