Publisher and development studio Relic Entertainment, together with Blackbird Interactive, have announced Company of Heroes: Definitive Edition, a modernized version of the cult real-time strategy from 2006. The game will be released this fall for PC via Steam.

The Definitive Edition in one package brings the base Company of Heroes along with the expansions Opposing Fronts and Tales of Valor, featuring three complete campaigns, four different armies, and over 50 multiplayer and skirmish maps. The goal, as emphasized by Relic, is to provide new players with the best possible entry into the series, while veterans get a “definitive” way to return to the original.

Technical upgrades include enhanced unit and environment textures, improved lighting and shadows, as well as a customized HUD and interface for modern widescreen and ultrawide displays, along with modernized controls, grid keys, and support for custom hotkeys. Additionally, quality-of-life improvements have been introduced, such as reverse driving for vehicles and automatic unit filling at headquarters buildings.

The artificial intelligence has been further improved, and the new difficulty level Ruthless A.I. is aimed at players seeking the maximum challenge. The game has been transitioned to a 64-bit platform while maintaining compatibility with a twenty-year catalog of community mods, ensuring a long-term future and support for the modding scene.

In multiplayer, it is possible to play cooperative and custom matches for two to eight players across four factions: the American army, the British 2nd Army, the German Panzer Elite, and Wehrmacht, or engage in matches against A.I. on dozens of available maps.
