In today's special Mario Kart World Direct, we learned some new details, but we also recalled those we learned during the Switch 2 Direct and Treehouse.
The first focus was on explaining two different racing modes that will be played in the form of Grand Prix and Knockout Tour where 24 players will compete against each other. Grand Prix includes a series of four tracks connected by an open world, there will be new tracks, but also old ones in a new version.
Knockout Tour consists of cups with a series of tracks, and the twist is the elimination rounds, so players will need to pay attention to their position, as the one who finishes last is out of the race.
Custom races (VS mode) will allow us to choose the rules ourselves, and even organize time trials, there will also be two special modes (Balloon Battle mode, Coin Runners). In balloon, the goal will be to destroy the opponents' balloons, while in coin runners we will try to collect more coins than the opposing team. Custom races will support team racing up to four groups.
Players will be able to enjoy the free driving option either solo or in a group of three, where they will unlock additional costumes by completing missions and challenges. It was also mentioned that Mario Kart World will feature split-screen play (2-4 players) and wireless multiplayer (16 players).
Mario Kart World is set to release on June 5 as an exclusive for Nintendo Switch 2.
