Xbox Report #4

Home / News / Xbox Report #4

This week, Xbox is testing useful changes for consoles, while Demo Fest showcases which smaller titles have quickly captured players' attention.

Xbox Report #4 brings two news items that clearly show where Xbox is currently headed: on one hand, practical improvements for the console itself are coming, and on the other hand, the Demo Fest is once again providing visibility to smaller and more experimental games. Microsoft has started introducing four new features for selected members of the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring through the Xbox Insider program, before they gradually reach a larger number of users. Among them is the return of support for longer unique gamertags, now up to 15 characters instead of the previous 12, which will particularly delight players who want a bit more space when choosing a name.

The second important change concerns Xbox 360 games, which now receive their own Game Hub displays within game cards, allowing players to quickly see progress in achievements, clips, and other useful information. There is also a new option that allows launching a game via the cloud while the local version is being updated or installed, provided the title is available through Game Pass cloud gaming. The fourth novelty is the simpler addition of games to the wishlist directly from game cards, regardless of whether the games have already been released or are yet to come.

The second part of Xbox Report #4 takes us to the Xbox Demo Fest 2026, which this year offered more than 40 free demo versions. According to the current popularity ranking on the Xbox Store, among the Demo Fest titles, Active Matter, a shooter with time loop elements and dangerous zones full of anomalies, attracted the most attention. Following are Order Automatica, a dark roguelike auto battler, and Wrap House Simulator, an unusual simulation of running a wrap restaurant that relies on chaotic customer interactions and food preparation.

Also making it into the top 10 most popular Demo Fest titles are Carry The Glass, Dodo Duckie, Salvation: Echoes of War, Akatori, Charlatan, Moonbrella, and Faeland. Interestingly, the list mixes action-adventures, platformers, metroidvanias, co-op challenges, and less genre-specific experiments, giving the Demo Fest a broader value than just a simple list of promotional trials. Demo versions should remain available at least until June 30, so Xbox players still have time to check which of these titles deserves a spot on their watchlist.
