Nintendo has officially announced a global price increase for the Nintendo Switch 2 console, the original Nintendo Switch, and the Nintendo Switch Online subscription. The price hikes will first take effect in Japan on May 25, 2026, while the markets in Europe, the USA, and Canada will receive the new prices starting September 1, 2026.
The biggest change concerns the Nintendo Switch 2, which will increase in price in Europe from €469.99 to €499.99, while the US price will rise from $449.99 to $499.99. In Canada, the new price will be CAD 679.99.
Nintendo stated that the reason is “changing market conditions” and long-term global business challenges, including rising production and component costs. More analysts have warned in recent months about the rising prices of memory chips and the impact of the AI industry on hardware production costs.
In Japan, existing console models will also see price increases:
Nintendo Switch OLED Model → from ¥37,980 to ¥47,980
Nintendo Switch → from ¥32,978 to ¥43,980
Nintendo Switch Lite → from ¥21,978 to ¥29,980
Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions will also receive new prices, and Nintendo states that the goal is “price alignment among regions.”
Despite the price increase, Nintendo has had an exceptionally successful year. According to the latest financial results, the Nintendo Switch 2 has already surpassed 19.86 million units sold worldwide.
