In the last few years, trading cards have once again become a hit among various generations. Pokemons and Yu-Gi-Oh still have loyal fan bases, and there's also Magic the Gathering, which has made a comeback thanks to various licensed collaborations. This indie title gives us the opportunity to feel what it's like to be the owner of a trading card shop.

Sports Card Shop Simulator is a title from the development team OverPowered Team and publishers Ultimate Games S.A. and PlayWay S.A. The game is currently in early access. We tried it out and bring you our impressions. This title puts us in the role of a shop owner selling sports trading cards (mostly football).

Developer: OverPowered Team

Publishers: Ultimate Games S.A., PlayWay S.A.

Price: 11.69 euros (until June 18, 2026), 13 euros (after discount)

Being a shopkeeper is not an easy job, and in this game, you will have various tasks ahead of you, from buying shelves to sort various items (boosters and boxes), a table where your customers can trade cards with each other, a display case where you can put individual cards for sale, and even a table where you can analyze each card individually and send it for grading. Perhaps the only negative aspect is that the game is single-player, as at times you may find yourself in a situation where you have a bunch of customers at the checkout while simultaneously running out of items on the shelf.

What I really liked was the ability to create your own players that you can later turn into cards and have the chance to pull them in one of the packs. You can also give them names and choose which national team they belong to. What I also found amusing was how the player names reminded me of the old Pro Evolution Soccer games that had distorted names due to legal reasons. So in SCSS, Dominik Livaković became Nick Levokavic.

There isn't much to write about the visual part of Sports Card Shop Simulator; the models of customers and cards are well made, and it's great that there is diversity, meaning you won't constantly see the same customer model. The gameplay also doesn't bring any revolutionary changes to the genre. Additionally, in the first few days, you will have certain missions that serve as an introduction, and later there are no more, which can make this title somewhat challenging for longer play sessions and repetitive.

For a title that is in early access, the optimization is smoothly done, and during gameplay, I didn't encounter any major performance issues. The controls are also simple and easy to understand.

Sports Card Shop Simulator is an excellent title for anyone who is a fan of collecting trading cards and will surely spend hours in this title without any problems. With each new level, you unlock better quality boosters and boxes, as well as various items for better organization of products. If you're looking for something to fill your time here and there, then this title is definitely for you, and who knows, it might even grab you for the long haul.
