The demand is so high that Valve had to improve the reservation system to better manage user expectations about when they will actually receive their controller. In an update, the company states: "When we introduced the Steam Controller last month, we immediately saw that initial demand exceeded our expectations."
Key information for new customers
If you are not on the reservation list yet, it is unlikely that you will receive your controller before 2027, as we found out ourselves when we tried to reserve the new Steam Controller. The reservation system returned feedback that the estimated delivery time is in 2027. For earlier reservations, the delivery deadline was in September 2026.
Valve also confirms: "We have no plans to stop producing the Steam Controller." However, with the current demand compared to the number of devices they can produce by the end of the year, they want to manage user expectations as much as possible.
Given that the Steam Machine and Steam Frame look like a near future, we can expect a similar situation with new devices: huge demand and long waiting times.
