Resident Evil once again carries Capcom: the company has achieved its best year in history.

Home / News / Resident Evil once again carries Capcom: the company has achieved its best year in history.

More than 59 million games sold, record profits, and nearly seven million copies of Resident Evil Requiem in just a few weeks.

If anyone has proven how to run a gaming company in the past decade, it is Capcom.

The Japanese publisher has released its latest financial report confirming that it has achieved the most successful business year in its history, with record revenues, record profits, and the highest number of games sold in a single business period. During the business year ending March 31, Capcom sold as many as 59.07 million copies of games, representing significant growth compared to the previous year when 51.87 million copies were sold.

A large part of that success once again comes thanks to the Resident Evil series. The biggest star of the year was Resident Evil Requiem, which, after its release in February, managed to reach nearly seven million copies sold by the end of March. An impressive result for a game that spent only a few weeks on the market. But what may be even more impressive is the longevity of Capcom's catalog. As much as 83.7 percent of total sales comes from older titles, showing how Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, and other Capcom franchises remain in demand years after their release. At the same time, the industry continues its digital shift. Capcom reveals that as much as 93 percent of all games sold during the year were purchased in digital form, while physical releases continue to lose market share.

This is also the ninth consecutive year of record profits for Capcom, and the company believes that the streak will continue. For the business year ending in March 2027, sales of as much as 65 million copies of games are expected, which would represent an additional growth of approximately ten percent. And there is no shortage of reasons for optimism. During this period, Capcom will continue to reap revenues from Pragmata, which has already surpassed two million copies sold in the first weeks of sales, while we also anticipate the release of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the return of one of the beloved Japanese action franchises. There is also Mega Man: Dual Override, planned for 2027.

Capcom's strategy is no longer limited to just video games. This month, the second season of the anime adaptation of Devil May Cry is arriving, while a new film adaptation of Street Fighter will hit theaters in October.

It is hard not to admire what Capcom is doing. While many major publishers have gone through layoffs, restructuring, and failed projects in recent years, Capcom has methodically built the value of its biggest franchises without the need for aggressive acquisitions or expensive experiments. The result is a company that today appears more stable than ever, with Resident Evil remaining its strongest asset. And given the rumors about new remakes and the continued success of Requiem, it is hard to imagine that this trend will stop anytime soon.
