Record amount

The auction house Heritage Auctions announced that it has sold a sealed and perfectly preserved copy of Super Mario Bros. for three million dollars. The copy is 40 years old and has set a new record, previously held by a copy of the same game that sold for two million dollars in 2021.

The previous copy came from the first series of produced copies of the game, i.e., from 1985, while this new one is part of the second series from early 1986, and it received a 9.6 A++ rating from the American grading company Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA).

"It's fitting that one of the most important video games in the world will achieve an excellent result for the history of this hobby. The story behind it is incredible - it was discovered a few months ago in a completely new Control Deck NES package, meaning it hasn't been touched for 40 years, which makes the result even more impressive," said Evan Masingill, who is responsible for collecting video games that Heritage offers at auctions.

The official description from Heritage Auctions described this copy as the holy grail of video game collecting, and with its condition and PSA rating, it is an attractive item and the first sealed copy available at public auction.
