Microsoft: 16 GB RAM is the new minimum for gaming, 32 GB is becoming the standard.

Home / News / Microsoft: 16 GB RAM is the new minimum for gaming, 32 GB is becoming the standard.

A very small number of players have 128 or 256 GB of RAM installed.

Microsoft has updated its recommendations for gaming PCs with the Microsoft Windows 11 platform, clearly stating: 16 GB of RAM is the new minimum, while 32 GB is a “no worries” option for gaming.

According to the latest guidelines, 16 GB of memory is still considered a “reasonable starting point” for most gamers. However, Microsoft emphasizes that 32 GB is becoming an increasingly desirable standard – especially for users who use additional applications like browsers, Discord, or streaming tools alongside gaming.

The main reason for this shift lies in the growing demands of modern games and the operating system itself. Newer titles are increasingly using more memory, while Windows 11 runs a number of processes in the background that further burden the RAM.

In other words, while 16 GB will still be sufficient for “pure” gaming, 32 GB provides a significantly more comfortable experience without stuttering and issues during multitasking. That’s why Microsoft describes this configuration as a “no worries” option – a choice that ensures long-term stability and readiness for future games.

This move only confirms the trend in the industry: as games become more demanding, hardware standards are rising, and 32 GB of RAM is slowly transitioning from a luxury to a new norm for serious PC gamers.
