If you opened your PlayStation profile last night and saw games you never purchased, you were not alone. Sony has officially confirmed that part of the PlayStation Network services is currently experiencing issues following an unusual problem that has affected a large number of users worldwide.
It all started when players noticed that titles they had never launched, purchased, or even searched for in the PlayStation Store were appearing in their libraries and the "Recently Played" section. The situation became even more bizarre when it turned out that many of these titles were obscure and often of very questionable content.
Among the games that appeared most frequently are:
Sex Store Simulator
Hentai Princess
Avatar Island
Horror Night with Tung Tung Tung Sahur
Quiz Thiz Germany
In some cases, players reported that alongside these games, hundreds or even thousands of hours of alleged gameplay were automatically displayed, even though they had never launched them. Social media and Reddit quickly filled up with screenshots from confused users trying to figure out what was happening with their accounts. Fortunately, there are currently no indications that this is a security issue or a compromise of user accounts. It appears to be an internal error within the PlayStation Network infrastructure.
Shortly after reports began spreading across the internet, Sony temporarily removed the display of the "Recently Played" section for numerous users, likely to prevent further spread of the issue while a solution is being worked on. On the official service status page, Sony confirmed that there are currently issues within the Gaming and Social category, which encompasses game launches, certain online features, and social aspects of the system.
Interestingly, multiplayer functionalities and most other PSN services have not been affected so far. Sony briefly stated that they are investigating the problem and working to resolve the issues as quickly as possible. While such outages are not uncommon in the world of online services, it is rare for a bug to "add" a collection of random games and several thousand hours of gameplay that users have never achieved overnight.
One thing is for sure - many PlayStation players woke up this morning with a very interesting gaming history that they certainly did not create themselves.
