Home / News / World of Tanks Heat is coming soon to closed beta.

With World of Tanks: HEAT, Wargaming is clearly trying to push the franchise in a much more modern and aggressive direction. This new standalone free-to-play title is not just leaning on classic tank combat, but blending it with a hero shooter formula, a faster pace, and a stronger focus on team play. That is why the closed beta launching on April 16 feels like the first real test of whether this kind of shift can win over both long-time World of Tanks fans and players used to more dynamic multiplayer shooters.

World of Tanks: HEAT, the new standalone free-to-play title from Wargaming, enters closed beta from April 16 to 20, and will be available on PC (Steam and Wargaming Game Center), Steam Deck, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and via the Nvidia GeForce NOW service.

This is a tactical shooter title with vehicles that brings a completely new experience within the World of Tanks franchise, set in an alternate post-WWII era. The game combines classic tank battles with modern “hero shooter” elements and a faster pace of play.

In HEAT, players take on the role of elite Agents, characters with special abilities that can turn the tide of battle. Each tank has its own tactical advantages and can be further customized through advanced weapon, armor, and visual modification systems.

During the beta, three roles will be available:

  • Defender

  • Assault

  • Marksman

The beta version will include four PvP modes on eight maps:

  • Hardpoint (5v5): Capture, defend, and hold a series of dynamically changing bases.

  • Control (5v5): Capture and hold a single zone.

  • Kill Confirmed (5v5): Destroy enemies and collect their tokens or pick up your allies' tokens to prevent the opposing team from scoring points.

  • Conquest (10v10): Large teams and multiple zones to capture create an extensive and dynamic battlefield.

Powered by Wargaming's new graphics engine, World of Tanks: HEAT will launch simultaneously on PC (Wargaming Game Center and Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam Deck, and Nvidia GeForce NOW service, with full support for cross-platform play and cross-progression.
