The worst open world game in 2025?

0.5 /5

Mindseye

After trying out the new dedicated free roam mode in Mindseye, I feel cheated – and according to the first impressions on the ResetEra forum, I'm not the only one. One user clearly and brutally summarized their experience: this is not a game, this is just a fancy presentation of something that doesn't even try to be functional.

Namely, after finishing the subpar gameplay, the game throws you into a “free play mode” – which has no content! No missions, no story, no challenges. You can only drive a car in a deserted, sterile world. The best comparison would be to a technical demonstration where someone literally just downloaded car models from the Unreal Engine Marketplace, placed them in a map, and let the world “walk” by itself.

Xxx

Moreover, Mindseye is not even at the level of bad mobile games – everything is “glitchy,” poorly optimized, and without any purpose. The very act of going through the main story was torture for me. Although the game was presented as technologically advanced and impressive, the reality is harsh – it's barely playable. The best comparison would be like looking at a beautifully lit building from a distance, but when you get closer, you see that there are no doors, walls, or content. Just emptiness.

Gameplay is very weak – shooting and driving feel outdated, cover shooter mechanics are overly simplistic and lack depth, dialogues and voice acting are poor, pacing is uneven and rushed, there are technical issues like FPS drops, bugs, and game crashes, and missions and the overall gameplay loop quickly become repetitive and tiresome.

The saddest part is that Mindseye tried to present itself as something serious and innovative. But what we are offering players today is just a technical model – without a game, without a goal, without respect for the time and interest of the community. As someone who was excited about the idea of the Everywhere platform and Mindseye as its flagship, I must admit – this hurts. But when we strip away the shine and PR, the bitter truth remains: Mindseye is just another big nothingness.

At this moment, players around the world can request a refund for their digital copy of the game. Leslie Benzies, after great success with the Grand Theft Auto series, has failed to create a megahit this time!
