What will we be playing in May 2026?

May 2026 brings a diverse offering – from major AAA titles to interesting indie projects and returns of cult series. Although the month is not the strongest of the year, it offers several very interesting titles worth keeping on the radar.

007: First Light

One of the biggest titles of the month is certainly 007: First Light, the new game from IO Interactive. It is an action-adventure that follows a young James Bond at the beginning of his career, with gameplay inspired by the Hitman series. A focus on stealth, infiltration, and narrative is expected, which could attract fans of spy games.

Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight

The return of the popular Lego series brings a new adventure in the Batman world. The game releases on May 22 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, featuring an original story inspired by the DC universe. Cooperative gameplay and a humorous approach remain in focus.

Forza Horizon 6

One of the biggest titles of the month is undoubtedly Forza Horizon 6, a new open-world racing adventure from Microsoft. The game releases on May 19 for Xbox and PC.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book

Nintendo brings a new adventure with Yoshi, exclusively for Switch 2. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book releases on May 21. The classic charm of the series, creative levels, and a focus on exploration are expected, making it ideal for casual and younger audiences – but also for Nintendo fans.

Bubsy 4D

The cult, yet often disputed platformer returns in a completely new 3D edition. This is the first such attempt for the Bubsy series after nearly 30 years. Whether this return will succeed or repeat old mistakes – remains to be seen.

Gallipoli

For fans of realistic multiplayer shooters, there is Gallipoli, a continuation of the WW1 series. The focus is on tactical team play and historically authentic battles. The game features large battles and meticulously reconstructed locations from World War I.

Indie and Early Access Highlights

Besides major titles, May is traditionally strong for the indie scene. Among the more interesting are:

Alabaster Dawn – a new RPG from the creators of CrossCode

Mixtape – a narrative adventure inspired by music

Dead as Disco – an unusual beat 'em up

Farever – a cooperative adventure with elements of Zelda

These titles may not have AAA budgets, but they often offer the most creativity.
