Tomb Raider Definitive Edition on Switch 2 is an adventure familiar to most of us, in a version that finally looks and runs just as it should on a handheld console. This is not a new experience, but it is a pleasant surprise how well it fits into the new hardware.

The graphics are clean and precise, without that blurry layer that often kills the atmosphere on portable ports. The island of Yamatai looks impressive. The details are clear, the lighting stable, and everything feels much closer to the versions on more powerful platforms than you would expect. Switch 2 handles all of this effortlessly, and the game remains smooth even in the most intense scenes, which is a huge relief if you've ever experienced bad ports on the older Switch.

The gameplay of Tomb Raider remains one of its stronger points. Climbing and exploration are fun, combat is solid, and the controls are precise. Everything reacts quickly and naturally, just as it should. In action moments, the game feels surprisingly stable. Even when everything around Lara is collapsing, the console keeps the rhythm.

The story is just as dark and focused as in the original. We follow young Lara as she learns to survive, makes mistakes, panics, and slowly becomes the version of herself that players know very well. Although the narrative does not change, the technical stability makes the game a bit more convincing, as characters and scenes have more space to shine.

However, a few minor things stand out: the sound in handheld mode sometimes feels over-compressed and loses some power, and the scripted parts of the game can still be too obvious. This is more a reminder of the time when the game was made (when every major game had to be “cinematic”) than a serious problem.

All in all, this edition provides the best portable experience of modern Tomb Raider. It looks good, runs great, and reminds us why the reboot a decade ago thrilled the audience. Lara Croft comes here in a form that is stable, fun, and very convincingly adapted to Switch 2, making this port the best way to experience her on the go.
