Midsummer Studios, founded by veterans behind games like Sid Meier’s Civilization, XCOM, and The Sims, has announced its closure. The studio was established in May 2024, and this sad news was shared by co-founder and creative director Jake Solomon.
"We opened the studio, we made a game, and I am proud of both. Before we close the doors of Midsummer Studios, I want to share a glimpse of Burbank, a game into which we poured our hearts," said Solomon. He described Burbank as a mix of The Sims and The Truman Show, but more than that, and it was in the development phase.
He also added: "I believe that people are storytellers and should be given the opportunity to share the stories and characters they create. Burbank allows you to do that. We had moments of gameplay where the characters came to life in a way we have never experienced before; for an old developer like me, that is something special.
