During the State of Play presentation, Krafton officially unveiled Project Windless, a new premium open-world action RPG currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. The project is being developed by Krafton Montréal Studio in collaboration with teams from South Korea.
The game is set in the world of the fantasy novel The Bird That Drinks Tears by Youngdo Lee, but the story takes place about 1,500 years before the events of the books, during a time when legends were just beginning to form. Players take on the role of the Hero King, a powerful warrior of the Rekon race, humanoid bird beings known for their strength and warrior nature, and shape the future of the world through decisions and alliances. Project Windless features a nonlinear story, real-time combat, and massive battles with thousands of soldiers thanks to its special "Mass Technology," while the entire game is developed in Unreal Engine 5. The title is envisioned as a purely single-player experience without multiplayer elements, and the release date will be announced later.
