Paradox Interactive and Room 8 Group have officially announced the major expansion Roads to Power for Crusader Kings III on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. At the same time, a new event pack Wandering Nobles, focused on travel and adventures through the medieval world, is also available.
The main novelty of the Roads to Power expansion is the ability to play as a “landless” adventurer, meaning a character without their own territory. Players can now freely travel the map, accept contracts, build a reputation as a mercenary or explorer, and gradually accumulate power and wealth before conquering their own land.
The expansion also introduces a completely new administrative authority system inspired by the Byzantine Empire. Instead of the classic feudal model, players will manage a network of governors, political intrigues, and bureaucratic influence within the empire.
Among the more important new features are:
new “Influence” progression system through bureaucracy
management of a family estate even without own territory
ability to designate the emperor's heir
new activities such as chariot racing
additional Byzantine events, music, UI, and cosmetic content
a completely new way of playing through the life of an adventurer and traveling the world
Along with Roads to Power, the event pack Wandering Nobles has arrived, further expanding the travel mechanics.
The pack introduces three new lifestyle paths:
Inspector
Wayfarer
Voyager
New activities have also been added, such as hiking, sightseeing, and inspecting one's own kingdom.
Crusader Kings III originally released in 2020, while the console version arrived in 2022 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
