The Philippine Game Show 2025 took place at SMX Aura from November 14 to 16, drawing gamers, influencers, and cosplayers from all over the country. The event showcased how gaming culture in the Philippines continues to evolve, blending anime, cosplay, and pop culture into one exciting celebration.
More than just a space to experience new games, the show highlighted the unique way different fandoms come together, creating a lively atmosphere that celebrates creativity and shared passion. It was a true reflection of how modern game conventions have become vibrant hubs of entertainment and community.
The cosplayers and venue set-up immediately sparked my interest the moment I entered. The venue is significantly smaller compared to my last experience in SMX Mall of Asia, and yet, I noticed the sense of community in this crowd. Everyone seemed to somehow know one another. I was greeted by a 360 camera, which I tried—a fun experience for anyone looking to showcase their outfit or just have some fun.
At the entrance, there was a mini-stage set up for cosplayers and other internet celebrities. I had the chance to see Akaei Ray, a Singaporean cosplayer and content creator, as well as the cosplay couple, Roxanne and Zackt. Fans were given a chance to take photos with them on stage.
When I arrived at the main area, I was immediately drawn to the Tabletop Game Section. Everyone was allowed to try the tabletop games for free, but we were required to download the Bandai Namco App and register. The Bandai Namco App lets you know where the games are held around the country. Bandai Namco is the company behind popular animes such as Hunter X Hunter, Bleach, and Sakamoto Days. The game demo took around 30 minutes, but I enjoyed it a lot because it reminded me of my Yu-Gi-Oh days.
The main stage was packed with different activities. I got to watch performances from various artists like KamenJoshi, Project:Materia, and Project:Sosei, as well as a Tekken tournament. After watching, I went around to check out the other activities. The venue also had sections such as Meet and Greet and Fan Service, a fun area that allows you to interact with your favorite artists.
As for the games, the Philippine Game Show 2025 featured a wide variety, including popular titles like Tekken, Project SEKAI / Proseka, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Fans could enjoy exciting game matches and tournaments, as well as interactive booths where they could try out different games, making the event a well-rounded celebration of gaming and pop culture.
One of the highlights of the Philippine Game Show 2025 was the presence of popular VTubers, virtual YouTubers who use animated avatars to interact with their audience in real time. These digital entertainers took part in live streams, fan meet-ups, and interactive sessions, bringing a unique blend of gaming, performance, and online culture to the event. Their engaging personalities and creative content added an exciting dimension to the convention, bridging the gap between virtual and real-world fandoms and giving attendees a chance to connect with their favorite online stars in person.
For someone without a driving license, I had a blast trying out the F1 Driving Simulator. I think they could tell I don't really drive, but it was still an exciting and fun experience. There was also a Just Dance corner, but I just watched the others bust their moves.
