At last night's Grammy Awards, there were winners from the video game industry. The 8-Bit Big Band orchestra from New York has already won this prestigious award once in 2022 for their performance of Meta Knight’s Revenge from the title Kirby Superstar.
This year, they were awarded for the medley Super Mario Praise Break in the category of Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella Performance. Their performance features themes from Super Mario Bros., Bob-Omb Battlefield (Super Mario 64), Gusty Garden Galaxy (Super Mario Galaxy), and Athletic Theme (Super Mario World).
"We won our second Grammy! Thank you to everyone who listened to us and supported us during our new performances, and a big thank you to everyone who helped arrange Super Mario Praise Break and to our amazing friends Bryan Carter and Matthew Whitaker." The 8-Bit Big Band wrote on their social media.
The Best Game Soundtrack award went to composer Austin Wintory for the game Sea of Stars, marking his third nomination in this category, as he was previously nominated for Stray Gods and Aliens: Fireteam Elite. He was up against Pinar Toprak (Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora - Secrets of the Spires), Wilbert Roget, II (Helldivers 2), Gordy Haab (Indiana Jones And The Great Circle), and Cody Matthew Johnson and Wilbert Roget, II (Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card & A Pirate's Fortune).
