The popular PAYDAY series is soon getting a completely new dimension – virtual reality. PAYDAY: Aces High, a cooperative VR game coming to SteamVR and Meta Quest platforms in 2026, has been announced.
The project is being worked on by Fast Travel Games in collaboration with Starbreeze Entertainment, and the goal is to transfer the well-known heist gameplay into a fully immersive VR experience. The game will allow co-op play for up to four players, where the team will plan and execute heists together, similar to classic PAYDAY titles.
The plot follows a group of elite criminals known as "The Aces", who seek revenge on a powerful business magnate after being unjustly accused and imprisoned. Players will perform robberies in various locations such as banks, museums and luxury penthouses, using a wide arsenal of weapons and gadgets.
PAYDAY: Aces High will offer different playstyles through specialized characters – from a stealth approach to full action, with the ability to customize equipment, skills and tactics. The offer will include automatic rifles, shotguns, pistols, but also various gadgets such as sentry turrets and grappling hooks.
Starbreeze points out that it is not just a VR version of an existing concept, but a completely new PAYDAY game developed from the ground up for virtual reality.
If all goes well, PAYDAY: Aces High could be one of the more interesting attempts to successfully transfer an established co-op shooter series to a VR environment.
