The largest wiki dedicated to the Grand Theft Auto series is no longer on the Fandom platform. The editors decided to move the entire project to their own, independent website, just a few months before the release of Grand Theft Auto VI. The decision was made after a vote within the community, and almost all editors supported leaving Fandom. The new site is already up and running and contains all the more than 20,000 articles that existed on the old wiki.

The main reason for leaving, according to the editor, is the aggressive ads and intrusive video content that were displayed at the top of the articles. A particular problem was that the majority of visitors use the wiki without logging in, so the ads were particularly annoying to mobile users. Editors also criticized Fandom's content policies and site customization restrictions. They claim that these rules have even led to the removal of some images, quotes from the games and other elements that are part of the game itself. GTA Wiki thus joined the growing number of communities leaving Fandom. Minecraft, Balatro, and League of Legends wikis have also done this before, mostly due to similar issues with ads and platform restrictions. Fandom said that they regret that the editors have decided to leave, but that the existing GTA wiki on their platform will still remain active for the millions of users who visit it every day.
