One of the better games released back in 1986 is getting a new remake. Publisher Nordcurrent Labs and development studio Black Tower Basement announced the game Defender of the Crown: The Legend Returns. The game will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam and GOG platforms in 2026.
Compared to the original, this time players will be able to play the game in three ways. Retro Mode is a kind of love letter to the original from 1986, offering almost complete authenticity with modern stability and improvements. Classic Mode brings a modern reinterpretation of the game with a new visual identity and smoother mechanics. Finally, the all-new Kingdom Mode introduces a dice-rolling roguelike adventure where players build tactical decks and manipulate roll outcomes to shape the outcome of procedurally generated campaigns.
In the case of good sales results, it is to be expected that some other Cinemaware video game will experience a similar treatment.
