According to a report by the news agency Reuters, Sony is preparing to acquire the Japanese company Kadokawa. This was confirmed by two sources who say that negotiations are ongoing. They add that if the deal proves successful, everything could be finalized within a few weeks.

Sony and Kadokawa declined to comment on Reuters' claims. Kadokawa Corporation is a Japanese media conglomerate engaged in book and manga publishing, film production, and DVD sales. It will certainly be interesting for gamers, as they hold a majority stake in FromSoftware, the company behind Elden Ring, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro.

They also own the telecommunications and media company Dwango, which owns Spike Chunsoft (Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero). Earlier this year, they also acquired the Tokyo studio Acquire (Octopath Traveler I and II, Mario & Luigi: Brothership).

As a result of this rumor, Kadokawa's shares jumped overnight by 23% to ¥3,745, marking the company's highest value ever. In June, the company experienced a cyberattack that caused their shares to drop by 20% and resulted in the theft of 1.5 TB of data, including employee information.
