During our visit to Gamescom this year, we had the opportunity to see an early version of a retro horror title called Requiescat: The Dreadful.

This is an Italian game inspired by the Silent Hill and Resident Evil series, specifically their beginnings on the original PlayStation console. The game was presented to us by Simone Granata from the small independent studio Kibou Entertainment.

Honestly, the short gameplay we saw impressed us. The game's story takes place in Central Europe during the Middle Ages. Graphically, the game looks perfect, as the developers have managed to capture the visual style and gameplay from the late 1990s and early 2000s.

In order to grasp the story, the adventure will be completed multiple times. The game will feature three unique playable characters (an inquisitor, a mercenary, and a rogue) whose fates will intertwine. According to the developers, one playthrough will take about 15 hours. To assist players unaccustomed to tank controls, gameplay will also be possible using modern controls.

Along with exploration and collecting glowing key items, we also saw combat against enemies (zombies?). As an inquisitor, players will be able to defend themselves. As is the case in the Resident Evil series, players will collect herbs to heal during critical moments in and after numerous battles.

We were told that the full version will also include a crafting system (inspired by Resident Evil 3) and classic battles against large enemies (popular bosses). Additionally, there will be puzzles during gameplay. Of course, the menus and map are traditional, well-known to old school veterans of the genre.

The version we were shown has been in development for only three months. The development studio is currently looking for investors. We will certainly have to wait a while for the full version to be released (for PC and possibly for current consoles). As a portal, we will closely follow the further development of this interesting retro-inspired action horror title that combines the best elements of modern games (such as Bloodborne) and classic games (the aforementioned Silent Hill and Biohazard series).
