The horror franchise Outlast will receive its film adaptation, the development studio Red Barrels has announced that it will join forces with Lionsgate. The film will be directed by Roy Lee with the help of J.T. Petty, who was a producer of the horror film IT from 2017. Outlast is just another game in the series that will get an adaptation, and this has proven to be a lucrative opportunity, as Universal's Five Nights at Freddy’s earned nearly $300 million, while its budget was only $20 million.
Roy stated the following about the upcoming film: "When Outlast was released in 2013, it changed the horror genre in video games and set new standards. Its deep world provided an excellent foundation for creating a film that deals with themes of psychological and physical horror. I am excited to bring this unique world to fans, as well as new viewers."
