Today, KOEI TECMO Europe and the development team Team NINJA announced that Nioh 3, the latest game in their “dark samurai” action RPG series, will be released on February 6, 2026, for PlayStation®5 and Windows PC via Steam. To celebrate the start of pre-orders, a story announcement trailer directed by Shinji Higuchi was also revealed, showcasing the story that awaits fans.
In Nioh 3, players take on the role of Tokugawa Takechiyo, who is on the path to becoming the next shogun during the tumultuous Sengoku period of Japan. In the shadows, his younger brother Tokugawa Kunimatsu, consumed by hatred over Takechiyo's succession, plots to overthrow him. Possessed by a sinister force, he leads an army of yokai and launches a fierce attack on Takechiyo, abruptly ending the period of peace and plunging Japan into chaos. Guided by the mysterious power of his guardian spirit Kusanagi, Takechiyo transcends time to survive in a kingdom in desperate condition and become shogun.
The story of Nioh 3 will unfold on a larger scale than ever before in the series. It will encompass various periods and regions, including Edo Castle and the Tōtōmi region during the Sengoku period — which players could explore in the Alpha demo version — as well as Kyoto, the capital of the Heian period, recently revealed. Players will be able to freely explore each period in an open environment, with beautiful and diverse landscapes. During the dangerous quest to thwart his brother's conspiracy, Takechiyo will encounter various yokai characters and other powerful enemies while accepting the challenge of Crucible.
Throughout their journey, players will meet characters from different periods, including Takeda Shingen, Minamoto no Yoshitsune, and Minamoto no Yoritomo. Other notable characters who will encounter Tokugawa Takechiyo include Hattori Hanzo, Honda Tadakatsu, and Saito Fuku. Actors Tao Tsuchiya and Kanata Hongo will lend their talents to Nioh 3 as Himiko, the mysterious queen of Yamatai-koku, and Kunimatsu Tokugawa, respectively. Two behind-the-scenes videos have also been released to mark this announcement.
In addition to the standard edition, players can digitally pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes the base game, a digital pre-order bonus (“Hellfire Warrior Armor set”, “Hellfire Ninja Attire set”, “Scampuss Furball Netsuke Charm accessory”), a Digital Deluxe edition bonus (“Infernal Weapons Set – 14 types”, “Kodama Netsuke Charm accessory”), two DLC packs, and a Season Pass bonus (“Chijiko Netsuke Charm accessory”). The Season Pass is also available for separate purchase and includes two DLCs and a Season Pass bonus (“Chijiko Netsuke Charm accessory”).
Furthermore, a SteelBook® edition is available for pre-order, which comes with the base game and two exclusive bonus DLCs. All editions of the game come with a pre-order bonus**, which can be redeemed through the PlayStation™ Store and Steam®, available for a limited time after the game's release.
Nioh 3 is currently in development and is scheduled to be released on February 6, 2026, for PlayStation®5 and Windows PC via Steam®. The game will feature Japanese and English voice acting, with text in English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish.
