The new expansion of the popular MMORPG Guild Wars 2, titled Visions of Eternity, is scheduled for release on October 28, 2025. This will be the sixth expansion in the game's history, and ArenaNet promises a combination of deep narrative, systemic upgrades, and fresh mechanics aimed at both hardcore and returning players.
Return to the Mists: Castora as the Central Location
The center of the new story is the mysterious island Castora, a long-lost paradise that hides devastating ley energy secrets. The Inquest is back in the spotlight, and players are invited to explore mutated flora and fauna, uncover mystical structures, and prevent a potential catastrophe.
On launch day, Visions of Eternity will bring two new open worlds, with an additional two following over the next year through free content updates.
Nine New Elite Specializations: A New Era of Buildcrafting
The biggest gameplay change comes through nine new elite specializations, one for each class. Each specialization brings a completely new approach to class mechanics, in some cases altering fundamental concepts.

- Mesmer – Troubadour: A support spec that uses musical motifs instead of shatter mechanics. Focuses on buffing allies and rhythmic combat.
- Ranger – Galeshot: A new ranged DPS that uses the "Cyclone Bow" and controls the battlefield with winds.
- Guardian – Luminary: Enters "Radiant Shroud" with light weapons, replacing traditional passive bonuses with active stances.
- Thief – Antiquary: Changes the Steal mechanic using skritt helpers that generate random artifacts.
- Necromancer – Ritualist: Inspired by GW1, summons spirits and uses "weapon spells" with duration.
- Warrior – Paragon: Uses the "Motivation" resource to enhance battle cries and tactical control of combat.
- Elementalist – Evoker: Summons animals (familiars) related to the elements, rotating between basic and empowered skills.
- Engineer – Amalgam: A symbiotic mold replaces the toolbelt and allows for mutations through stances.
- Revenant – Conduit: Connects with the legendary entity Razah, manages the "Affinity" resource, and transforms stances.
The open beta for all players (including free accounts) will be available from August 20 to 27, 2025.
Group Content: Raids, Strikes, and New Fractals
Visions of Eternity integrates group PvE content into a new structure. Raids and strike missions are now unified for easier access and a reward system. Coming in 2026:
- Two new raid encounters (with challenge and legendary modes)
- New fractal dungeon with a challenge mode
Legendary Loot and Homestead Upgrades
The new expansion brings six new legendary items:
- Three weapons
- Ring and accessory
- Legendary aquabreather (the first of its kind in the game)
Owners of Janthir Wilds and Visions of Eternity will gain access to an exclusive homestead parcel on the beach, with the ability to transfer layouts between locations.
Mount Upgrades: Skimmer Gets New Depth
The Skimmer mount receives new masteries: quick vertical movement, diving, and better maneuverability underwater and above magma. Perfect for the topography of Castore.
Post-Launch Development Plan
The expansion is designed as a foundation for a year of support:
- Q1 2026: System upgrades (no new maps/story)
- Q2/Q3 2026: New maps, raids, legendary gear, and narrative continuation
