Destiny 2: Heresy without some voice acting due to actors' strike

Last summer, SAG-AFTRA initiated a strike of voice actors against video game publishers due to a number of issues, including protection against AI technology. Although the union has reached agreements with some publishers, the strike is still ongoing. Now, Bungie has confirmed that the upcoming expansion Destiny 2: Heresy will include scenes without recorded dialogue as an agreement with the actors has not yet been reached.

In an update on the official Bungie website, the studio noted that "certain voice lines" were not recorded due to the strike. In those scenes, Destiny 2 will automatically display subtitles so that the story can still be followed despite the lack of voice acting. Bungie also stated that all Heresy activities that do not have voice parts will contain a warning before they begin. However, it is unclear whether these dialogues will be recorded later when the strike ends.

On the social network Bluesky, a voice actor named Orchid commented on the news, reiterating that actors want to "reach a fair agreement" that would include protection against artificial intelligence.

Destiny 2 is not the only game affected by the strike. Hideo Kojima revealed that his upcoming titles – including OD and Physint – also cannot proceed with planned dialogue recording.

As for Destiny 2, the Heresy expansion launches on February 4 and brings a return to the Dreadnaught. Additionally, players will receive a new dungeon called Sundered Doctrine and a special collaboration with the Star Wars franchise, which brings gear, armor ornaments, accessories, emotes, and finishers inspired by some of the most fearsome warriors of the Empire, including Death Troopers and Imperial Guards.
