The publisher Daedalic Entertainment and the development studio One-O-One Games have officially presented Curse of the Crimson Stag, a new folk-horror adventure coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
The game was announced during the Nacon Connect presentation along with the first teaser trailer, and it brings an atmospheric mystery thriller story set in the abandoned Whiteroot Hotel, where players will explore the boundary between the supernatural and dangerous human conspiracies.
According to initial information, Curse of the Crimson Stag will focus on exploration, puzzle-solving, and a narrative adventure infused with a folk-horror atmosphere. The developers particularly emphasize a mature story, psychological tension, and a binaural audio system that should further enhance the feeling of unease during gameplay.
The main protagonist is a teenager named Brit who, dissatisfied with life in a small town, accepts the opportunity to participate in the filming of a documentary about the mysterious Whiteroot Hotel. Once a luxurious hotel located in the American Northwest, it has been abandoned for nearly two decades following a series of mysterious deaths and the downfall of its owners.
The local population believes that the Crimson Stag, a mysterious protective spirit from local legends and folklore, roams the surrounding forests. What initially seemed like an ideal opportunity for a documentary project soon turns into a much darker story when Brit realizes during her investigation of the hotel that there may be something much more dangerous behind it all.
The developers state that the game will feature "relatable but flawed" characters, meaning realistic protagonists with their own flaws and problems, while the story will gradually unfold through a web of lies, secrets, and supernatural events.
Curse of the Crimson Stag currently does not have a confirmed release date.
