The global memory crisis, which is already affecting the PC and gaming industry, could last longer than expected – until the end of 2028. According to the latest information from the industry, manufacturers such as SK Hynix warn that demand for DRAM and NAND memory continues to exceed production capacity.
The main reason for this problem is the explosion of artificial intelligence. AI data centers consume huge amounts of memory, which is why manufacturers are redirecting production towards more expensive and more profitable solutions such as HBM memory, while classic DDR4 and DDR5 modules for consumers remain in the background.
The consequences are already visible - the prices of RAM and SSDs are rising rapidly, and this trend is expected to last for years. In some cases, memory prices have already increased several times, which directly affects the prices of finished computers and components.
Analysts warn that this situation could mean the end of cheap computers. If the trend continues, models under $500 could completely disappear from the market by 2028, while users will upgrade their devices less and less due to high prices. Although manufacturers are planning new investments in production capacity, many factories will not be ready before the second half of 2028, which further prolongs the crisis.
If the situation does not stabilize soon, the gaming and PC market could enter a new era - one in which memory becomes the most expensive and most important part of any system.
