In the age of modern and graphically powerful games, a video game occasionally appears that reminds us of the very core of interactive entertainment and some more important things - the depth of mechanics and the power of decision-making in games. Our Adventurer Guild (somewhere also called Our Adventuring Guild) is the work of an independent developer under the pseudonym GreenGuy and is just such a video game. The publisher is Ultimate Games S.A. This tactical RPG quietly conquered the PC scene, and at the beginning of 2026, the game arrived in its most complete version on PlayStation 5, bringing with it a complexity rarely seen in modern gaming. This video game was released on Steam in early 2024, so it is well known to computer gamers. A big challenge for the developer and publishers was to make a port to the console, since the game was obviously created for mouse and keyboard. Controls are now controller friendly. We played the PlayStation 5 version.

STYLE

By genre, the game is a tactical RPG and a kind of management simulation. The visual style, along with the deep mechanics, is perhaps the best thing about this video game. 2D high-resolution anime-style portraits are used for dialogue and character depictions, which is very reminiscent of Japanese RPGs. Maps and combat units are presented through simple, retro animations. At first glance, the graphics look outdated, but despite the retro look, they have another purpose - transparency. Information and statistics have an advantage over the superb appearance of the graphics in this game. Although it sounds incredible, the game at once gives the impression of simplicity but also of very deep complexity. The graphics are simple, and the control mechanics are incredibly complex and deep.

GAMEPLAY

The main essence of the game is running a guild. We are not just fighters, we are strategists and directors. Each adventurer we recruit at the local watering hole has his own unique traits and ambitions. And, what is interesting, each of them has its own background, its own story, which you can read in the menu. Something that sets this game apart from similar games (Final Fantasy Tactics, Battle Brothers, Fire Emblem) is the Bravery system. In most games, the soldiers you control are like robots that follow orders. Here, the outcome of the battle is dictated by the mental state of our fighters - for example, if they witness the death of a comrade, their courage (bravery) decreases, which can lead to panic and reduced efficiency. However, multiple successive destructions of opponents can also boost morale, enabling 'Bravery' moves which are powerful abilities of any fighter and can drastically change the course of a fight. That system reminded me a lot of the Limit Break system known to every player of the Final Fantasy series.

Between missions we manage the base. We decide which fighters we will train, upgrade, who will work as a blacksmith in the forge, as well as who must rest in the inn at our base to heal wounds received in the mission. The game goes by weeks - when we do everything we can, we end that week and at the beginning of the next we start from scratch with new missions. The system of ending the week reminded me of the legendary video game Heroes of Might and Magic III, as well as the turn-based combat and the movement of the marked fields of the fighters in battle.

GOOD SIDES

In this video game there is an absolute possibility of customization - we can arrange each league as we want, and upgrade it with hundreds of items or skills. We can even edit his previously mentioned background story in the menu. The positive side of the video game is also the relationship system - characters that we often send together on missions develop bonds that give bonuses during combat. The tactical depth is incredible. In battle, you have to take into account everything - height, terrain, direction of view, morale, Bravery system, grass where we can hide, opponent's position... The price of this video game on the PlayStation Store is 14.99 euros, which is also a plus. For the price of a weaker indie game, you get a video game with incredible depth and complicated mechanics.

BAD SIDES

Graphic minimalism is something that will drive many away from this achievement. If appearance and the most modern graphics are important to you, you have nothing to look for here. The animations are outdated, and the characters and almost everything looks like something from a cartoon or comic book. Someone who has not played tactical RPGs before may be overwhelmed by the amount of information and possibilities when starting to play this video game. For many, this will be an immediate reason to give up, if they blindly buy Our Adventurer Guild. One small minus is managing all these mechanics and navigating information with the controller. The game is obviously created for PC, but it is adapted to the console as much as possible. Despite this, the impression still remains that the target base for developers is still PC gaming.

CONCLUSION

This video game is a classic example of the proverb "All that glitters is not gold". In translation, a video game does not need to have high-end graphics and big cinematic cut-scenes to entertain players. Our Adventurer Guild is not just a humble product from an indie developer - this game offers hundreds of hours of gameplay for the target audience. Someone who grew up on RPGs, or simply enjoys even modern strategy titles, should not miss this title. Despite its modest appearance, this video game offers a lot of content for its price.
