NVIDIA has announced DLSS 5, a new generation of its technology for improving performance and picture quality in games, which brings one of the biggest changes so far - the transition to the so-called neural rendering. Unlike previous versions that focused on image upscaling and frame generation, DLSS 5 uses generative artificial intelligence to create the very elements of the scene in real time.

In practice, this means that AI no longer "repairs" the existing image, but actively participates in its creation. The system analyzes the context of the scene - such as materials, lighting and character details - and generates more realistic effects such as advanced lighting, reflections and textures. DLSS 5 thus goes a step further than technologies such as DLSS 4 and 4.5 which already enabled a multiple increase in FPS with the help of AI generated frames. Those earlier versions could generate up to five additional frames per render, significantly increasing performance in games.

But with DLSS 5, the focus shifts from performance to realism. NVIDIA claims that the new technology can drastically improve visual quality – from a more natural rendering of skin and cloth to more convincing global lighting. However, this change caused certain controversies. Some developers and players believe that too much reliance on AI could damage the original artistic style of the games, while NVIDIA emphasizes that developers will have control over the intensity and the way these effects are applied
