Warner Brothers has closed three gaming studios, among those affected are Monolith (Middle-Earth Shadow of series), Player First Games (Multiversus), and Warner Bros. Games San Diego. The closure was first reported by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, and the official news was received by Kotaku's Ethan Gach.
They told him from Warner: "We had to make some tough decisions related to our development studio structure and investments in building larger games from well-known franchises (Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC, and Game of Thrones)."
"After careful consideration, we decided to close three studios Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and Warner Bros. Games San Diego. This was a strategic change, not a reflection of the skills and talents of the teams within these studios."
"The development of Monolith's Wonder Woman game will not continue. Our hope was to provide fans with the highest quality experience of this character, but unfortunately, that is no longer possible given our strategic priorities. This is yet another tough decision as we reflect on Monolith's long history."
They concluded with: "We admire the dedication of these three teams and thank every employee for their contributions. As difficult as today is for us, we must remain focused on returning to developing high-profile games for our fans, which are created by world-renowned studios, and restoring growth and profitability during 2025 and beyond."
