It is inevitable that pre-orders for the limited edition PlayStation 5 Pro for the 30th anniversary have already been resold at high prices on auction sites like eBay. However, Sony has decided to counteract resellers in Japan by setting a requirement of 30 hours of gameplay on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation since February 14, 2014. If you do not have that much time logged on your account, you will not be able to complete the purchase.
Although this is a relatively low criterion, it will prevent resellers from creating new PSN accounts to buy consoles. If it proves successful, there is a possibility that a similar system will be applied to future high-demand products in Western countries.
Japanese players have generally reacted positively to this decision, although some believe more could be done. Still, this system is much better than that in the UK and the US, where players had to wait in virtual queues and hope to gain access to PlayStation Direct quickly enough to complete their purchase.
As we mentioned earlier, some resellers are already offering pre-orders for the PlayStation 5 Pro for the 30th anniversary for amounts up to $10,000, but dissatisfied fans are retaliating by reporting such auctions to eBay.
There will probably never be a perfect solution to this problem, but ensuring that consoles reach the right fans makes sense. It seems that Japan is on the right track with the introduction of the mandatory 30 hours of gameplay, and we hope that this method will eventually expand to other regions.
