After nearly seven years of development in Early Access, the Croatian survival game SCUM is finally getting its full version. At the Summer Game Fest 2025, it was officially announced that version 1.0 will be available on June 17, 2025, on Steam.
What does version 1.0 bring?
The development team Gamepires, now under the publisher Jagex, has announced a range of significant new features coming with the full release of the game:
- Completely redesigned SCUM island: The island has received a refreshed look with new locations, environments, and vegetation, providing players with a fresh exploration experience.
- Introduction of NPC characters: New enemies and allies add extra dynamics and challenges, both in singleplayer and multiplayer modes.
- Complete mission system: Players will have access to a variety of tasks that offer rewards in the form of money or fame, with the ability to create their own missions.
- Optimizations and bug fixes: The largest wave of performance and stability improvements to date, ensuring a smooth and reliable gaming experience.
History and significance of the game
SCUM was first launched in Early Access on August 29, 2018, developed by the Zagreb studio Gamepires in collaboration with Croteam. The game quickly gained popularity due to its deep survival simulation, including detailed systems for metabolism, health, and character physiology.
Over the years, SCUM has attracted a large community of players and has become one of the most prominent survival titles on Steam, with over 88,000 reviews during the Early Access phase.
