Capcom's survival horror franchise continues to break records.

Resident Evil obviously has no intention of slowing down. Capcom has officially confirmed in its latest financial report that the legendary survival horror series has now surpassed an incredible 200 million copies sold worldwide.

For a franchise that started back in 1996 during the era of the first PlayStation, this is a huge success that only confirms how important Resident Evil has become in the gaming industry. From its slow and claustrophobic horror beginnings to modern remakes and action-oriented sequels, the series has managed to remain relevant and more popular than ever over the decades.

A large part of that success comes thanks to the last few years during which Capcom has practically hit a home run with almost everything it has released under the Resident Evil name. The remakes of the second, third, and fourth installments have brought the series back to the top of the industry, while new titles like Village and Requiem continue to expand the audience.

According to official figures, the latest title Resident Evil Requiem is currently at 6.91 million copies sold, and it is expected to easily surpass the 10 million mark in the coming months and years.

However, the record is still held by Resident Evil 5 with over 19 million copies sold, while Resident Evil 2 Remake is very close with just over 18 million.

Capcom has also released updated sales figures for other major franchises alongside Resident Evil. Monster Hunter currently stands at an impressive 127 million copies sold, Street Fighter at 59 million, while Mega Man has reached 44 million over the years.

Of course, the internet immediately exploded after the financial results were announced due to rumors about the future of Resident Evil. More and more sources are mentioning remakes of Resident Evil 0 and Code Veronica, while there are also whispers about another remake of the original game from 1996.

And honestly, after everything Capcom has done with the RE Engine era… it’s hard not to be interested in what’s coming next.
