The Japanese Famitsu reported how many units of the Switch 2 console were sold during its launch. Believe it or not, from June 2 to June 8, 2025, a total of 947,931 Switch 2 consoles were sold. This breaks the record of PlayStation 2 from March 2000, which sold "only" 630,552 units.
As for games, the expected best-selling game in Japan at this moment is Mario Kart World (782,566 units sold!). It's nice to see that there are simple games that attract players' attention.
At the same time, it seems that the future of the Switch 2 console is unquestionable. In fact, in the US, the console has become the best-selling Nintendo console at launch. Despite a higher price than its predecessor and technical specifications from 2021, players have decided to support this new Nintendo "toy".
Time will tell whether the momentum will continue, or if a drastic drop in sales will follow, leading to the Switch 2 OLED and/or a completely different console, as was the case with the DS and Wii consoles.
