The Croatian indie studio Downtown Game Studio has begun preparations for a Kickstarter campaign for their upcoming project Dark Queen of Samobor, an atmospheric 2.5D action-adventure game inspired by Slavic mythology and local folklore. Although the campaign has not yet officially launched, the development team has already opened a Kickstarter page so that interested parties can follow the project and be among the first to be notified when the campaign begins.
The game's story follows a knight returning from the Crusades who finds his end under the influence of a dark queen, inspired by the legends of Barbara Celjska. The game will combine exploration, platforming, and combat, with an emphasis on atmosphere and narrative, drawing inspiration from titles like INSIDE and Limbo.
The game is planned to be divided into multiple chapters, featuring different environments and enemies based on Slavic myths. Visually, Dark Queen of Samobor presents a dark yet artistically stylized depiction of the world, with a focus on detail and ambiance.
Dark Queen of Samobor is currently confirmed for PC via Steam, with a release planned for 2027. The studio also states that they are considering console versions after the release. The Kickstarter campaign is expected to help complete development, further polish the gameplay, and prepare future demo versions and community testing.
