2K and Gearbox Software have announced that Borderlands 4 for Nintendo Switch 2 is available for pre-order, with the game's release scheduled for October 3, 2025. The new installment of the popular looter-shooter franchise brings all the chaotic action of the series to a portable version thanks to the capabilities of the Switch 2.
Randy Pitchford, founder and president of Gearbox, stated that the team is excited to bring the biggest and most ambitious Borderlands to the Nintendo platform right at the console's launch. The game will support online co-op, local multiplayer, and GameChat for easy connection with friends and family.
Borderlands 4 introduces a new mechanic for quickly forming online teams and instanced loot, dynamic level scaling, and individual difficulty settings so that all players can enjoy the campaign. The Joy-Con™ 2 feature like a “mouse” allows for more precise aiming and better control over the arsenal of weapons, while virtual game cards make sharing and transferring games easier.
The game introduces four new Vault Hunters — Vex, Rafa, Harlowe, and Amon — each with unique abilities. Borderlands 4 will be released in three editions: Standard, Deluxe, and Super Deluxe.
